A Garland for the Queen

PCS kicks off Season 34 in high fashion with music composed in honor of Queens Elizabeth I and II. From Renaissance madrigals to the 20th century sounds of Ralph Vaughan Williams and grammy award winning British composer Tarik O’Regan, you won’t want to miss this royal event.

A Garland of Carols

The Piedmont Chamber Singers weave a magical holiday scene with familiar melodies and a sparkling sound. The Star (A Christmas Scene) by Jon Washburn presents a tapestry of carols including I Wonder As I Wander, Rise Up Shepherd, and How Brightly Shines the Morning Star, tied together by a moving narration from Carl Sandburg's poem Special Starlight. Carols by Bob Chilcott and Greensboro singer/composer, Bill Snedden, round out the program. Come wrap yourself, your friends and your loved ones in the sounds of the season with A Garland of Carols.

A Garland of Hope: Cantatas of Compassion

PCS joins the Guilford College Chamber Singers to present choral masterworks by Johann Sebastian Bach and Benjamin Britten. Bach's Ich hatte viel Bekümmernis, BWV 21 will be joined by Britten's Cantata Misericordium, Opus 69, created by the pacifist composer for the commemoration of the centennial anniversary of the Red Cross. This poignant and cathartic program will leave you with a sense of hopeful optimism.

Don Armitage
Guest Conductor
Dr. Donald L. Armitage is the Cantor Emeritus of Augsburg Lutheran Church in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He holds the Bachelor of Music Degree from Central Methodist University, Master of Sacred Music Degree from the School of Sacred Music, Union Theological Seminary in New York City, and the Ph.D. in Applied Music, Theory and Literature from Michigan State University.
He is an active recitalist and clinician, has been the Conference Director of the Montreat Conferences on Worship and Music and the Biennial Conference of Region 2 of the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians, and is University Organist at Wake Forest University.
His professional affiliations include the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians, the Hymn Society in the United States and Canada, the Presbyterian Association of Musicians and the American Guild of Organists. |

Hannah Carter
Soprano
Hannah Rose Carter grew up in Ontario, Canada and upstate New York. Ms. Carter received her bachelor’s degree in vocal performance and music education at SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music. She relocated to Greensboro in 2003 and attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she earned her master’s degree in vocal performance.
She has appeared as a soloist with the Greensboro Choral Society, Dei Laudes Choir, Bel Canto Company, Kensington Consort, and at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. Ms. Carter teaches music classes for preschool children at The Learning Palette Preschool and College Park Baptist Church.

Melanie Pringle
Mezzo-Soprano
A North Carolina native, mezzo-soprano Melanie Pringle received her bachelor's degree in music from Guilford College. While at Guilford, she studied under Piedmont Chamber Singers’ Artistic Director, Dr. Wendy Looker, among others of the faculty. Melanie has performed with Long Leaf Opera Company and Greensboro Opera Company, as well as in choirs with the Greensboro Symphony and Winston Salem Symphony. She recently had the pleasure of participating in the Charlotte Opera Guild Competition. This is her first season and solo performance with Piedmont Chamber Singers, and she hopes for many more to come!

Glenn Siebert
Tenor
Glenn Siebert has appeared with many of the world’s most acclaimed orchestras, opera companies, and festivals including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Royal Flanders Philharmonic, Hamburgische Staatsoper, San Francisco, Washington, Santa Fe operas and Ravinia, Blossom, Tanglewood, Oviedo festivals.
His interest in baroque music has led to performances with such original instrument ensembles as Philharmonia Baroque, Boston Baroque, Chicago’s Music of the Baroque, and Anima Etena in Brussels.
Mr. Siebert’s recordings include Mendelssohn’s Paulus with the Royal Scottish Orchestra, Schubert’s Mass in E flat with the Atlanta Symphony, and Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with Anima Eterna.
He has been on the faculty of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts since 1991 and since 2004 has been the Director of the Magnolia Baroque Festival. |

Jason McKinney
Baritone
Bass-Baritone Jason McKinney is originally from Milwaukee WI. As a Boys and Girls Clubs of America scholarship recipient, Jason discovered music through authentic New Orleans Jazz. His talents with the Albert system Clarinet and his vocal abilities brought him to North Carolina to study at the School of the Arts.
While in school Jason supplemented his studies by singing with Piedmont Chamber Singers under the direction of Dr. Don Armitage. Jason has been working as a professional singer in the U.S, Europe, Australia, and Mexico in various musical genres and venues for the past twelve years.
Jason still lives in Winston-Salem, where he teaches vocal studies at Separk Music in Lewisville and sings as a section leader for Centenary United Methodist Church. Jason is also the High Holiday cantorial soloist for Temple B'nai Israel in Spartanburg SC. Future engagements include performing Carmina Burana in Raleigh and Durham, NC and the title role in the play "Paul Robeson" in Easton, MD and Spartanburg, SC.
