BECOMING A PCS SINGER
Auditions for Season 34
While there are no more scheduled auditions for Season 34, we are still seeking tenors (or tenor Choral Scholars). Please call the Piedmont Chamber Singers office if you wish to audition and we will find a time for you to meet with the director.
During your audition, which ordinarily lasts about fifteen minutes, you will be asked to sight sing and vocalize. The Artistic Director will listen for voice quality, range and flexibility, and musical literacy. You are encouraged to sing a prepared piece if you have one available.
If our formal audition dates don't work for your schedule, or we're not looking for someone singing your part, don't despair--we want to hear you! Please just contact our director by email or contact us by phone. We're always looking for great singers and we'd be happy to talk to you about joining the group.
Regardless of the type of audition you're attending, please print and fill out a Singer Application form, and bring it with you to your audition.
Thanks for your interest in becoming a singer!
Singer Responsibilities
Membership in PCS commits each individual to involvement in all rehearsals and performances. A preliminary schedule is made available in May, with any refinements issued in August. Acceptance of the schedule signifies your agreement to be present at all the events it contains, including the annual workshops and meetings.
Because PCS receives funding from the Arts Council of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County, we are occasionally asked to perform at Arts Council functions. Some or all of the singers are expected to participate when possible. This participation not only raises awareness of PCS in the community, it also demonstrates the organization’s commitment to the Arts Council, its longest-tenured funding source. PCS members also perform at other functions around town, like our annual Salon Fundraiser, and River Run International Film Festival.
Of course, exceptions to these policies include illness or personal emergencies as well as unavoidable professional responsibilities. If possible, individuals are encouraged to notify the general manager or music director in advance or as soon as possible after the fact. Every effort is made to acknowledge events of general impact, like Holy Week, but regular attendance outside of special events or circumstances is expected.
Every effort is made to project the goals of each rehearsal in advance, which allows members to arrive as fully in control of the music as possible. Our limited communal rehearsal time may make individual practice necessary. However, consistent attendance, good rehearsal habits and attention to the technical challenges of the music will allow the group to achieve its musical goals.
